I just returned this back to Amazon: HP 15s 15.6 inch screen with Ryzen 5, 8GB Ram, 256 SSD
Why? Struggled to find a decent laptop now when all stores having no stock, including John Lewis, Argos, Curry’s… even Amazon. This came up so thought the specs would be enough for home working and kids high school work.
The laptop looks ok, its thin. The screen was sharp and it was nice and quick to start, all good up to here. However these are the bads:
– Keyboard is very flimsy, the top is cheap plastic that bends. The keys are very noisy and clicky, almost toy-like. Couldn’t stand typing on it a bit
– Webcam is the usual 720p – but very very bad. Forget about the HD quality. Very fussy and almost impossible to use for Zoom in lower lighting
– Screen viewing angles are bad. The screen looks great and vivid (watching 4k videos on youtube) but it has to be tilted just the right angle for you. Not good if there are 2 of you trying to view same screen
– The laptop arrived with someone had wiped the screen with a dirty wet cloth? I wondered if it had been opened and used prior?
– Speakers are ok for volume, but quality is pretty bad, no bass at all so even Zoom peoples voice sound harsh
For 499 I couldn’t recommend this at all. If it was on sale for 300 then it might do the job, but for build quality don’t think it will last very long.
I decided up my budget and got Macbook Air. Its million times better in every way. Glad I did.
